![]() Open Source games like Crack Attack, Freespace 2, Tux Racer, Privateer Remake, Tower Toppler, Nexuiz, Frozen Bubble, and Fish Fillets also work well on older Macs. Marathon, btw, can be downloaded for free. Funny thing is I still play games like Donkey Kong quite a bit, so go figure.īTW my home computer is a Intel mac as well (Imac 20") and I like it quite a bit.Īnything built for OS9, like Marathon, earlier Quakes, Doom Legacy, Star Wars Racer, Bugdom, Ambrosia Software titles like Apeiron and Escape Velocity, Wing Commander 3 and 4, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Dark Forces, Full Throttle, MDK.ĭon't forget Super Wing Commander, the high quality remake of the original game. ![]() I forgot about the Marathon series, they are pretty old, I like FPS games but Im a little spoiled from Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2 style graphics to go back that far. I dont have anythign against FPS games as long as they are fun. I think once I install a 80 gig drive (there is only a 20 gb now) I will definetly install 9.2. Im interested in any emulators or games that will run on it. This is just a little project, since the Imac looks like a toy, and is easy to move around with a handle/built in screen it makes the perfect little arcade game machine. I just upgraded the Imac to 512mb and today I swapped in a DVD drive from an older junked Imac to replace the cd rom drive, tommorow Im gonna try a bigger hard drive in there. I haven't been there for awhile, but they used to have some pretty good write-ups on benchmarks and how software performed on different configurations. OS X is probably taxing that machine pretty well all by itself, and I think a lot of the OS X native games are going to want a machine with better specs than a 500 Mhz G3.Ĭheck out. On my home computer I skipped from a 400 Mhz G4 (which I kept as OS 9) to one of the new Mac Pros, so I missed out on A LOT of the transitional stuff when it comes to gaming. There's classic mode of course, but I don't have any experience running OS 9 games in classic mode through X. I guess if your HD is big enough you could set it up as a dual booting machine. There are quite a few games out there for OS 9 and the previous system versions. ![]() I see you're not really looking at FPS games, but I think all the Marathons were released as free downloads. ![]() You could play Warcraft 1 and 2, Starcraft. You might actually expand your range of possible games by going back to OS 9. ![]()
